What is a Hitofude Dragon?

As the name suggests, a Hitofude Dragon is a dragon whose body is painted with a single brushstroke, without interruption, while praying and wishing, thereby symbolizing 'uninterrupted prosperity and financial luck,' 'uninterrupted good relationships and growth that connect people,' and 'continuous protection and safety.' For approximately 400 years, from the Edo period (1603-) to the present, these dragons have been revered and treasured as dragon deities, believed to grant strong blessings and benefits, and their legends continue to be passed down.

Keisuke Tejima, Kyoto One-Stroke Dragon Artist

Fascinated by dragons since childhood, he continues to paint dragon art. Influenced by his 14 years of Karate-do from age six, where he learned the spirit of Japanese traditional ways, he encountered the ancient "One-Stroke Dragon" technique. Deeply impressed by its history and methods, he believed it was his life's calling and self-taught the technique. He upholds the tradition of one-stroke dragons that has continued since the Edo period, while pursuing dragons with the spirit of "shu-ha-ri" (to follow, to break away, to transcend).
He is one of only three one-stroke dragon artists in Japan. Although originally from Fukuoka Prefecture, due to various coincidences and fateful encounters, he was led to establish his studio in Higashiyama, Kyoto, the thousand-year capital where dragon gods reside.
