What is Hitofude-Ryu (One-Stroke Dragon)?

As the name suggests, a Hitofude-Ryu is a dragon whose body is drawn with a single brushstroke, without interruption, while wishing and praying. It is believed to bring about 'uninterrupted prosperity and financial fortune,' 'unbroken good relationships and growth, connecting people,' and 'continuous protection and safety.' For approximately 400 years, from the Edo period (1603-) to the present, this dragon has been revered and cherished as a Dragon God, believed to possess strong blessings and benefits, and its legend has been passed down.

Kyoto One-Stroke Dragon Artist / Keisuke Tejima

Fascinated by dragons since childhood, he continues to paint dragons. Influenced by the spirit of the Japanese way he learned during his 14 years of "Karate-do" from age 6, he encountered the ancient art of "Hitofuderyu" (One-Stroke Dragon) and was deeply moved by its technique and history. Believing it to be his destiny, he self-taught the technique. While preserving the tradition of one-stroke dragons passed down since the Edo period, he pursues dragons with the spirit of "Shu-Ha-Ri" (learn, detach, transcend).
He is one of only three one-stroke dragon artists said to exist in Japan. Although he is from Fukuoka Prefecture, due to a series of fortuitous and inevitable connections, he was led to establish his atelier in Higashiyama, Kyoto, the thousand-year-old capital where dragon gods reside.
